The Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival each February presents great cinema from all over the world with Jewish themes or universal stories with a Jewish lens.

Our 26th annual film festival will be held in February 2022. We plan to show 25 or more feature length films plus shorts, to over 12,000 attendees, who travel from all over North America to be in Phoenix, Arizona during the winter.

We are seeking films with Jewish content or of particular interest to the Jewish community. Submissions close the 15th of October 2021. Please go to our website, www.gpjff.org, or send an email to artdir@gpjff.org if you are interested in submitting a film directly.

Awards & Prizes

In addition to general entries for the Festival, we have a specific contest with prizes for Israeli Film Students.

The three best films, as determined by the Executive Screening Committee, will be awarded cash prizes.

o 1st place prize $3,000.

o 2nd place prize $1,500.

o 3rd place prize $500.

Rules & Terms

The Israeli Student Film Contest
This Competition is intended to encourage and support student filmmakers in Israel and to enrich the films offered at the Festival.

1. The competition is open to university and graduate level film students in Israel who are not professional filmmakers.
2. The films must contain Jewish or Israeli themes, issues, history or culture.
3. The submitted films must be 20 minutes or less.
4. The films must be in English or have English subtitles.
5. The films should have been completed since late 2019 and not previously screened in the United States.
6. All categories are accepted, including narrative, documentary and animated.
7. Submissions are accepted at any time, but no later than 15 October 2021

Applicants should include in the FilmFreeway Cover Letter:
a. Full name, WhatsApp linked cell phone, email, school attending;
b. Name and email of an advisor or professor at your school we can contact
c. Any additional information you would like to share.

1. Filmmakers will be notified by 6 January 2022 as to whether their film is selected to be screened at the Festival.
2. If your film is a top three winner, you will be asked to create a brief (1-2 minute) personal video introducing yourself.
3. You will be sent an email invitation to upload the file(s) (short film, video introduction) to the GPJFF streaming platform, Cinesend. It must be received by 23 January 2022

The Executive Screening Committee of the Festival will be responsible for designating the top 3 winners of the Israeli Student Short Film Competition. Thus, although more than three shorts may be selected for screening, the shorts the committee decides, by a majority vote, to be the three best films, will be awarded cash prizes.

Submissions to be screened at the Festival will be selected by the committee based on content, quality, and fit to our audience. GPJFF retains sole discretion to accept or decline submissions for screening at the Festival for any reason. Submission of a film does not guarantee exhibition in the Festival.

By entering the Festival, the filmmaker/entrant certifies that they have the legal right to submit and exhibit the film. The applicant is responsible and liable for any breach of rights or the law in the submission and exhibition process. Moreover, by entering the Festival, the entrant grants the right to publish or transmit portions of the film for the purpose of press or promotion, unless otherwise noted.

The filmmaker shall indemnify and hold harmless the GPJFF from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered. GPJFF shall retain all contact information submitted by the applicant in strict confidence. Such Data shall not be shared with third-parties without the express written permission by the applicant.
